View Full Version : Broadwater Mixed Bag - 18/11/06
Went for a flick with Marty Z yesterday, the targets were early morning Jacks, but even though we didn't run into any of the red devils we still got into some nice fish. We hit the ramp at stupid o'clock - 3.30am and proceeded to work a stretch of pontoons with poppers for very little action. Once we got to the end of the line I threw out a 3" Fry in an attept to temp some of the resident bream, well first cast I felt a gentle tap tap, set the hook and the little 1500 Capricorn is singing its merry tune as a sizable fish runs from under the pontoon into the channel. We both call it for a trevor as the rod tip bounces up and down in time with the tail beats and sure enough a nice Big Eye trevally is soon in the boat.
We head from here to one of our usual Jack spots to find a bit of bait fish and the occasional bust up on the surface, great conditions for a bit more popper action. We had a couple of follows but no hookups on this stretch so its back to bouncing plastic down the walls. Pretty soon Marty is on and dancing all around the boat as a good fish attemps to swim for freedom. Five long minutes later a nice 61cm Golden Trevally is being photographed and released.
We continued in our search for Jacks but only manage to find Flathead, Moses Perch, Bream and a very nice Estuary Cod that went 35cm. Oh well, we can't complain, we got some good fish, and spent a very enjoyable morning on the water. Still plenty of time to get into some angry red fish.
Cheers

Why are all the good fish out at stupid oclock? It makes you wonder if its worth it sometimes, eh.
Nice Golden there, thats a good size. Theres been a lot of cod around lately, I got 3 on my last trip. Ive been using that shaky shad sp a bit as well. For some reason they seem to have a stronger scent than the other gulps, or is it just my imagination?
No red devils boys, oh well I feel better that I stayed in bed on Sat. Ive been very busy with work this week, but it should settle down now.
Did you notice the water temp with the southerlies? Was it still warm water?
cheers

Matty,
JT told me you got another on the weekend - might have to start following you around from now on!
I can't really complain though - was very happy with the Golden. It really did go hard and took a while to get it's head up - lucky for me it eventually ran into the open.
Here is the photo of the Cod - went 35cm which is nothing special, but it was my first fish on a new lure so that put a smile on my face. We released all fish to fight another day.
Andrew - water temp was around 23 degrees.

Good work boys, I'm sure those Jacks will soon come with you guys spending some early mornings on the water.
Cheers,
Marcel.
Cheers Guys,
Rich - All fish released to fight another day, some of them too good to only catch once. :)
Andrew - even though we got no Jacks, it was still a great day on the water, when we started it was glassed out and to see the sun come up - it was great, one of my favourite times of the day.
Hey Dan, haven't heard from my usual deckie yet about the next social, as soon as i do I'll let you know.
Matty - what size did it go again? I'll update the tables this morning, Keith is out to a bit of a lead, we'll have to do something about that.
Cheers Marcel - have you got may Jacks where the next social is being held? and are you fishing it?
Cheers
