Went for a flick with Marty Z yesterday, the targets were early morning Jacks, but even though we didn't run into any of the red devils we still got into some nice fish. We hit the ramp at stupid o'clock - 3.30am and proceeded to work a stretch of pontoons with poppers for very little action. Once we got to the end of the line I threw out a 3" Fry in an attept to temp some of the resident bream, well first cast I felt a gentle tap tap, set the hook and the little 1500 Capricorn is singing its merry tune as a sizable fish runs from under the pontoon into the channel. We both call it for a trevor as the rod tip bounces up and down in time with the tail beats and sure enough a nice Big Eye trevally is soon in the boat.
We head from here to one of our usual Jack spots to find a bit of bait fish and the occasional bust up on the surface, great conditions for a bit more popper action. We had a couple of follows but no hookups on this stretch so its back to bouncing plastic down the walls. Pretty soon Marty is on and dancing all around the boat as a good fish attemps to swim for freedom. Five long minutes later a nice 61cm Golden Trevally is being photographed and released.
We continued in our search for Jacks but only manage to find Flathead, Moses Perch, Bream and a very nice Estuary Cod that went 35cm. Oh well, we can't complain, we got some good fish, and spent a very enjoyable morning on the water. Still plenty of time to get into some angry red fish.
Cheers
John
