The key broke in last weekend by the edge of the chair .Had a look today not a problem says i.Got a cheap longnose plier at super cheap, grinded it down till i could see trough it outcame a bobbypin and voila out . simple matter of 3 hours of inappropiate language and a sixpack of wild turkey.Put everything back together .put the key in and behold the fuse blown. Not a problem must be some some scrapes still in there ,out came the airgun done.Soon as key touches it again fuse blown.Hmmmm ,pull everything apart again fuse blowing out without key in it this time.WTF.Wires ok its only a year old ,every wires at the right place ,what to do- away to the dealer to order another barrel. He informs me it would be a week at least and he cant tell me the price before he orders it.Well i said go for it mate i need it ,just as i said it looked down on the old barrel and two of the pins have been pushed in .Hold it i say, into the car to fly home.By this stage the family and even my trustee dog kept his distance from me.Anyway pulled pins back put everything back together and it works like a charm.all up took me 5 hours 8 turkeys and a pack of cigarettes. So beware of the little things when you fixing thing me thinks now.
cheers

Good point there manchild, done some jobs meself where the kick on effect went way deeper and waisted time.

But anyway a carefully placed drop of super glue on the key stub then put back in the barrell and held against the busted bit, let it set for a couple on minutes and so far got all me busted keys out.

In some cases you have to push the barrell in a tad, with a small screw driver if she's old and sloppy, other wise the key will never come out the barrell just locks the key in.

Geez did a lot of those at work until they went electronic, now when there busted no one gets in, useless bloody things.

hey roughasguts,
i am anapprentice locksmith and i think you should be very carfull when putting the broken key with superglue on it back in to the barrell because if the super glue sets on the wafers all hell will brake loose! it will glue the wafers to the key and to the core and nothing will move.

manchild,
do you have another key for it or do you turn the ignition with with the pliers you manufactured. Where are you located, might be able to help.

Hi Boatie, yeah I know what you mean about gluing the whole thing together.
But if I have to get in a room for one reason or another I try the least destructive way first.
Got a lovely purpose built wrecking bar other wise, (known as our master key)when i'm in a hurry.

hey manchild,
get your self another key cut because if you loose the one you have it becomes very costly. i dont know what blank the E-tec's are useing but we had a blank for a quicksliver (mercuary) ignition the other week, in the truck. (you would reckon we should with 17,500 different keys we have !!!) it would be a very good idea to get the second key cut.

Boatie.
