For the first time i bought my xd-100 some other place than my dealer. The bloke casually asked me how many bottles i used so far, onto my third i replied.Hes response was that is far to much and my motor wasnt programmed for xd-100 but for xd50.Much to my surprise another bloke was picking up his boat after reprogramming to the right oil at the same time i was there. He got his boat at the same dealer as me ,so im a little bit concerned.I specifically asked the motor to be programmed to xd-100 from the start so i wont have any issues.Question is this does this new dealer try to get some business or the old one?At $70 per bottle the old dealer maybe try to get you back in as many times as possible me thinks. The new bloke also told me i should be getting around 45-50 hours per reservoir .Im on 76 hours and onto my 3rd bottle -not reservoir.Hmmmm.
Its a 50 hp pushing 330kgs of poly .What consumption other people have?
George
thanks in advance

George,

The one thing that concerns me with a motor that requires a trained technician with a laptop and the appropriate program is that we are at the mercy of the dealer.I have to blindly trust that they know what they are doing and hope they are doing the right thing by me and the motor.
I also wonder if I'll be bent over a barrell once work is needed after the warranty period is over.
As for oil I have used about 5.5 L in about 85 hrs motor use.
So it sounds like yours might be using too much.(or mine not enough?)

cheers Scott

Your definately using to much mate, get in touch with evinrude aust .I contacted them on another issue and got a good response.Your also paying way to much for your xd-100 mate because down here on the central coast we can get it for between 55-60 dollars a bottle.

Although I have not poked around under the bonnet of one of these I find it hard to believe they are simply computer controled in their oil ratio. By this I mean the oil pump is mechanical possibly and the ratio switching system may be yes/no, 1/0, off/on based, but their simply must be IMHO a mechanical way to adjust each of the two settings, either shim, spring tension, impedance or simple spanner work needed.

If I am not dreaming here lies the problem as although a person can yes/no by laptop the ratio change, the actual ratio within each range may need someone who knows what they are doing (or gives a crap, it wouldn't be hard)to tune it to manufacturers spec.
