    Sp's rod and reel

Im looking for a rod and reel for flicking sp's around.
Im looking at the shimano sienna or a daiwa kastor.
I have been told to have a look at a rod from the
gary howard range a 002 samurai however $110
for a rod is not going to suit a 14 y/o budget.
I am also leaning towards the sienna as it will allow me to spend more on the rod
    Thanks
    Tom

I've got a Shimano X-Cel that I'm more than happy with. Was $100 (when they first came out), decent graphite and has fuji alconite guides. Have a look at places like ####### because I've seen them as low as $80.

If you have $150 to spend on a combo you may be a bit light on. Have a word to the folks and try to pinch them for another $50. A good rod off the rack is Starlo's Squidge Rod (made by Shimano i think). Not sure if they come in a rod/reel combo but if they do have a good look at them. Remember also you will be up for about $20-$25 for a spool of green fireline, 4 or 6lb is the go. A good budget rod is also the Silstar HG Graphite, it has all good quality Fuji components. Bought it for my 9year old son and cost about $85.

    Cheers, Clutter

Tom have a look around, compare prices with different tackle shops and most of the time they will match them or go better. Even keep your eye open for people selling 2nd hand reels/rods.Basserman snapped up a good sienna combo for a ripper price and raefpud had some bargains for sale a couple of weeks ago, i would have had one in my room if they didnt sell in a few hours.Ask some sp fisherman if they are keen to sell some gear they no longer use that much and make sure you have a look at it, make sure its in great nick and even a service history.Alot of the time with 2nd hand combos you will get a spool of line which helps alot. Good luck looking.

Jewies, Im afraid youll struggle to find a decent combo for $150 odd.
As someone suggested, go the extra $50 and and youl get a far better combo. Id find it hard to go past a procaster S for the price
Ive seen em as low as $70 and they have a decent quality graphite in em. On second thought i guess you could manage a combo in the $150 range. The sienna retails for about $70 i believe, so not a bad started combo there. Recently began using a shakespeare xtrem 1000 and no word of a lie i rate this reel up with the sustains ect reels int ehr $400 bracket.
Cost me around $100 and its the sweetest reel ive ever used.
Got 8 ball bearings and looks classy. Go the extra $30 and grab one of these and youve got a combo for $170.
    Cheers

I have been offered a procaster and a daiwa samarai 7i1500 for $100 just wondering what you fellas think of the reel as other people have said they rust easily. However since i only fish a few times a month i dont want anything to great just something that i will be able to maintain easily to last a year or 2
