    Shimano stella and aernos3000

Looking at buying one of these combos on special for 125 bucks just wondering if anyone who has use this gear has any feedback will be using it to flicks plastics around the estuaries for bream and flatties. Will probably spool it up with 4 lb fireline

    Hey tom
I have the Shimano Stella rod is a very nice little stick.
Should be perfect if you're just flicking plastics.
I dunno much about the aernos reel, make sure you pick a good reel if you're gonna run 4lb fireline on it.
    Hope this helps

My Aeros doesn't handle fireline line well, it bunches up too much just before the ends. Spool's line profile looks like this

    _^----^_

With mono it works much better.

tom - it wouldnt have a very large line capacity so not a lot of people would use a mono backing on the reel.

Yep, lots of it. I even took all the fireline off and redid it trying to build the ends up and it didn't work. My reel, the 3000 model, just works better with mono than fireline.

I have been running a Stella 6'6" with an Aernos 2000 with 6 lb fireline for 12 months.
I find this a very good combination for soft Plastics. Good infinate anti reverse and very little slop in the gears compared to others in this price range.
The 3000 might be getting a little big for one handed operation and with 4lb Fireline, that might explain the bunching.
Same it a combo, you might not be able to split it.

I'm using 8lb fireline. What I found is the ocillation doesn't go quite enough towards to the ends. Mono (being round and thicker) slips over itself and down to fill the ends. I suspect the flatter fireline is happy to lay on top of itself and feels no need to roll off the mounds and fill the ends like mono. At $55 for a new reel & rod combo I'm not complaining.

I have the stella 6'6 with aernos 2000 XT and 6lb fireline. It spools on fine, perfect both top and bottom of spool. Its light enough for one handed casting and have caught plenty of flathead with soft plastic on it. Was looking at the 3000 on it but Im glad I chose the 2000. 3000 is a bit of an overkill.

    Highly recommended.
