Re: underpowered3.8
I would be thinking you are in need of some more horsepower.
2 guys and 200kg gear is a hell of a load for a 15hp, a 25 would have its dot out trying to get that lot on the plane.
If the 15 has got some age on it that won;t help either.
Does it say on the hull the recomended max HP as I think you would be overloaded in kg's as well for a 3.8. Max weight should be there as well.

Re: underpowered3.8
max hp is 25 with 15 recomended..total payload is 360kg max..

Re: underpowered3.8
You will definetly need to go for the 25.
And I would say that at 360kg you are about 60kg over the max weight for the boat.
Stacer site says 4 persons max load and that translates to a average weight of 75kg per person = 300 kg max weight.
Hope this helps and doesn't cause any grief [smiley=wut.gif] Cheers Kev.

Re: underpowered3.8
We used to run a 3.9m Quintrex Trevally with a 15HP Merc. Over the time I set it up for lurefishing and then when I bought an electric O/board the boat had trouble planing. I fitted a junior Stingray Hydrofoil to the motor and it fixed the problem. The rig wasn't a speed demon but I took it to Hinchinbrook and Townsville as well as all the impoundments and the bay and it was fine. The electric motor was mounted on the transom as well the battery just in front of the rear seat so it had a lot of rear weight. It's a far cheaper option than a new motor.

Re: underpowered3.8
ive got a burmuda 3.5 v-nose punt and it has 9.9 souped up to 15hp standard prop.
can plane with 2 adults and 1 child + fishing gear. it doesn't jump outa the hole like with more hp but gets along quiet briskly like Davo said if still too much to climb out of hole get afoil, or bigger boatwith more grunt. but foil first its cheaper!
