You need to start with a blank, runners, reel clamp, grips and bottom rubber bung.
you can get all the gear off this bloke (ken0417716493) he'll be more than happy to have a chat and give you a few tips.
I've got 7 rods and built them myself, it's pretty satisfying catching fish on something that you made yourself.

Angha, If you look in July's edition of Qld fishing monthly there is a rod build by Gary Howard for a one piece from a MT4144. As he says if you want heavier you can buy the same rod in a 7 or 8 wrap. Cutting to a 2 piece is a personal preverence but is a matter of putting a ferule in the middle. Most tackle shops selling blanks can guide you in doing this.

    Angha,

You can buy a lot of beach / rock rod blanks in two peice these days as the y build them with glass to glass ferrules which are far superior to any brass ferrule that you would use on a one peice blank.

You will find suitable blanks from snyder glass and pacific composites, you may even be able to get the blank through this site as Steve Ausfish sells snyder rods he may be able to supply blanks.

    Cheers Glen,

Thanks every one. Looks like I will soon be building my own rods. There is no doubt ... any catch with that rod would be a proud catch
