High pressure water to get sand and salt out.
Remove the line and LIGHTLY spray some WD40 between the roller and the guide plates. If I have a can handy, I will first air-dry the roller with those compressed cans you get for cleaning out dust from eletronic equipment. (Expensive stuff though)
If it has seized up, possibly one of two things.

1 - You have stepped on the rod at some stage and bent the guide plates holding the rollers in position = Inspect for damage and see if you can straighten it out using a pair of needle nose pliers
2 - Saltwater got in and rusted the bearing inside of the roller. = Disassemble and check. If rusted / soak in WD40 overnight and clean out with a toothbrush. If still no joy then ask a rod building mate to replace it with a matching roller for ya.

After you are finished spraying the WableU40 oil on the roller- wipe with a clean cloth to get that extra oil off. Some guys reckon the fish can smell the stuff on the line that passes through and over an oil soaked roller and will scare them off?? Some guys will even run a stocking through to really make sure the stuff is completely off and that the roller is not catching anything and causing micro cuts to the line.

    Re: roller tip lube

Some good ideas, seems funny out of 3 roller tips i am running only the newest one has seized, maybe it need a good fish on it to free it up a bit, the oldest one is about 15 years old and never had a problem, maybe the newest has finer tolerances.
Anyway will dismantle today and sus it out, nearly inclined to mix a bit of graphite power with light oil, probable a bit thick.

Totally disassemble the roller and clean the bush or bearing thoroughly.
If its a bearing soak for a few minutes in shellite or lighter fluid, and turn the bearing till clean place on absorbent paper to dry and apply a few drops of oil.
