being new to the billfish scene i'm struggling to work out how the hell these wind on leaders work!

I have 15kg trilene main line, with a bimini twist and a double, i somehow have to attach this wind on leader i bought , any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt rely on those jason, personally id always use a swivel join at the double and less than 8 ft of trace inside 100m. many lure trollers have abandoned the idea.

lmao- wondered how long til one of those comments
jason- we use them on every rod every trip... havent had one let go yet for live baiting they are so very convenient... if your JUST trolling lures for the day then yeah what rob says is the go.

Thanks for the input fellas , i will be using these rods as multi purpose summer outfits, i.e i'm not rich enought yet to have multiple game outfits ... hehe, so my plan is with the wind on leaders i'm able to snap all sorts of rigs onto the wind on, for example i want to snap on anythng from a laser pro with short wire to a swivel, to marlin lures , to hex heads, to live bait rigs etc .. I am interested in your rig though rob, not quite understanding what u mean though maybe u have a pic you could send to me? Pm me if u have one.

    Thanks

If you intend to clip on a pre rigged marlin lure, especially the tiny ones that work well around here, consider what 5m of trace will do to the action.

for example I would tie the pre rigged lure direct to the mainline via a swivel, im totally against having bulky items in front of my lures (ie snapswivels) bad presentation imo, but then im a lure fisho.

    Re: Wind On Leaders

If I were starting over I would do things completely different to what I have done. It has always been about amassing 4+ outfits of every line class to take on the the fish whatever size they were and or what line classes were in the tournament I was fishing. If you got into switch baiting you would then only need a couple of line class outfits and you could have some outfits like deep water jigging outfits or a couple of big heavy reels as your teaser reels. Once teased it is amazing to watch how long the teased fish stay up. Once switched the hookups can be much better. A Gold Coast boat, Colorado, was having a shocking run on Blues and Stripes on lures but has gone to bait and switch and got their percentages right up. With wind-ons you still have to match them to the size of fish. No point running 2-400lb wind-ons for 20kg Black Marlin. Come right down to 80-120lb.
