sustain 4000 R.I.P!
well after 4years odd of frigate mackerel, mack tuna, longtail tuna, mackerel, dollies and some little kingies.
my sustain 4000 is far from being "fluid drive" to say the lest as the ocillator drive(the worm geared lay shaft and it's gear block) is out of action. i think using the braid line on fish above 6kg when your pumping them is too much for a little reel.... so it's a case of "the light that shines twice as bright! only lives half as long!"
like race cars' fishun reels if they get a bit lumpy its time to scrap em' and buy a newy.
i think i might get the 6000 instead this time and most probably the stella or saltiga.

damon, i just cant see the point paying that much for reels, get a spinfisher flog it for yrs replace a few parts and they just keep going, put the money into new lines and extra lures etc, broke an anti reverse in a spinfisher yesterday its also in its 4th year,

the point is how good they are when they are at their peak. how far you can cast and how fast it retrieves, in other words how much easier it is to be sucessful with.
when i say lumpy its probably smoother then a spinfisher new!
rob your right! they aren't cheap but either is a carton of beer or a packet of smokes! or god forbid a bet on the gee gee's or doggies!
a flash reel makes me feel good like some old bastard in a merc'

Basicly all that is covered in a fishing reel warranty is component failure due to faulty manufacturing, things like corosion, striped gears etc are generaly put down to neglect/misuse likewise something that is worn out is normaly deemed to have served it's purpose.Five and ten year warranties sound impresive, but in reality once all the fine print is read it becomes obvious they are marketing hype.
