A mate of mine has just told me that he can get me a custom made rod done at mates rates ... What should i be looking at asking for? Im after something like the Live Fibre M10 <maybe use that blank> 10-24Kg ...
What brand guides, reel seat, gimbal, etc should i be looking at asking for ...
Fuji Fuji and Fuji for ur guides, reel seat etc- the advantage to having a custom rod would be having something tailor made to your spec.s - pic your colours for ur bindings etc
I would first ask to see the rod builders work before going to much further mate. He may build rubbish for all you know and even a good thumbs up from your mate dont mean much unless you have seen his work. As for the bits and peices, stick with Fuji they are tried and tested and stayed at the top for years and years. Gimble, I would use Aftco. Aftco are spun not cast like the copy cats, they cost a bit more but out last any other gimble. Reel seat, I would use a FPSH 24 or 26 Fuji reel seat. For the grips I would use Hypolon, EVA shrinks in the sun, it also becomes very slippery wen wet not to mention the cockroaches, they love to eat the stuff.
Thanks for that stuart ... pretty much what i was looking for ... I already have a rod made by this fella and i cannot fault it, beautiful rod without doubt ...
Will thehe FPSH 24 or 26 Fuji reel seat suit a TLD30 2 speed?
I have heard people talk about wraps and bindings ... the more the better? whats the standard, what should i be asking for?
The FPSH 24 or 26 will except a TLD30 no worries at all, just make sure the reel seat is glued thread down. As for the thread work, well thats up top you mate but I think less is best. Some go way over board and the whole rod looks like it belongs on a christmas tree, or out the back of a game boat as a teaser. Try to get this guy to use A thread for every thing if you can, he may not want to but persist any way, the rod will look a lot less bulky at the end.
