    surf rod and reel combination

I have on lay by an alvey 6500 BCV reel and an alvey custom beach king 13' 6' rod with a roll of 15lb line . My fishing is limited to six or so weekends a year while camping on Stradbroke or Morton island. Have i made a good choice or should i have gone with a 6000 series reel and a lighter shorter rod

If you're chasing Tailor you've got a pretty good rig, will also work well for Dart but a bit of overkill for Whiting.

That will do the job nicely methinks. A little heavy for whiting as clutter said but you will catch plenty of tailor dart flathead and bream with that gear.

I've got a similar set up, but I do use the 6000/12 foot combo far more often. Lighter, easier to carry around and apart from big tailor handles everything else fine. Unless you are going after the big greenbacks i'd down size to get more use from it.

    Cheers, MON.
