Re: long tail tuna
There just like the mactuna only bigger, you wont miss them chopping away but they can be quiet fussy. i get most of them on lead slugs I make, this is the best one caught on my lures sofar this season, ben caught it.

Re: long tail tuna
thanx rob, by the photo you have tied the mono straight to the slug? no need for a wire trace? should i ditch the braid in favour of mono when chasing pelagics? long tail are a lot better eating than mack tuna ??? how are you finding the raymarine? i am finding mine to be excellent the more i get to use it 8)
thanx
( sorry about all the questions)

Re: long tail tuna
hey dale
you can stick with the braid, that will give you a much greater casting distance which is very handy when the fish are spooky.which is almost allways.just tie a leader of mono or flurocarbon to the end as braid is very visable.
yea LT'S arent to bad to eat as long as you bleed them and ice them straight away.bit of a pain to fillet though, its like butchering a cow and chuck the bloodlines.
cheers scott

Re: long tail tuna
dale, yeh just tie ya slug to the line if its about 10kg line, nice and easy, i think ben had braid on and a 5m 12 kg trace... no need for wire unless u want to land the sharks that eat the tuna
sounders going fine.

Re: long tail tuna
Just keep an eye to the small boils that occur outside the larger mac tuna boils or they are easy to spot when they are in a jumping mood. Mac tuna attract the most birds, then LT's then mackeral so don't rely on the birds 100% although where the bait is, the others aren't far behind.
Congrats on your 1st pelagic on lure. I'm sure you're still smiling and keen to get back out there. Hope you didn't eat it as they are not close to the eating quality of LT's and yellows. PM me some of your details if keen and next time I'm heading out, you're welcome to tail me. If I can help, it'll be my pleasure.
Cheers, Jay
