has anyone had any success with trolling with handlines? a mate of mine took me out a year or so ago and we trolled with handlines and cleaned up!!!!
he had like a big rubber 'O' ring say 10mm think or so with the handline attatched to that somehow. any help would be hugely appreciated......THANKS
A lot of cruising boats use them. !00-150lb mono to an large O ring, more mono to a steel trace and something like a feather or spoon on the end. They catch a lot of fish.
Wish I could take you out to the local mack patch. Pros everywhere using handlines, piano wire attached to spoons. Had a mate catch a 10kg spanish on the weekend on handline trolling. Some advice get some gloves or finger stools or else you will feel the pain. Good fun though
Heaps of people use hand lines to troll. I use bike tube as a rubber . 20m VB cord then 30m 2.5mm s/s wire rope then 10m No 8 piano wire and a 5" spoon . Seems to do the job . Attach the VB cord to hand line then tie bike tube on put a loop in the VB cord and tie to other end of bike tube , this gives the spring efect to set the hook and you line is still attached to something for the real big one ../ hope that helps good luck

Theres a few guyz around here who spool heavy duty handlines up with a fool roll of bricky's cord and then have a long trace of wire and a bit single hook spoon style thingy.
They all use gloves as a handline is not the safest of all objects.
Cheers
Matt
I use cord rope on the alvey handline reel, with the large bearing swivel to about 4m of 800lb Jenkai onto a paravane, with another 6-8m of 800lb jenkai to a large spoon. Works well for mack.
