I cast baits and let them sit with the drag right off in the estuary for bream, whiting and flatties.
I cast pillies (full or half) off the rocks for what every comes along.
I also cast chrome as far as I can off the rocks for Tailor.
I would also like to cast 1/2 ounce SP's into structure for school jewies with 14lbs braid. (Just can't get the hang of my Abu :-) )
And reels around the 4000 size range seem to suit me nicely. I have always been buying cheap ones (and they last 12 months)but am now thinking of spending up to $300 on a good reel.
Stradic 4000 comes to mind straight away.
I know someone will say I need my Alvey for the rocks and a 2000 for the bream and a 5000+ for the jewies etc but due to economic constraints I am looking at just the one purchase (p.s. I have an Alvey that I use at the beach)
Anyone got any suggestions of good reels to suit as many of these tasks as possible? What are your pro's and con's for reels in this size and price range?
i've got the cheaper symetre and its reel nice and smooth. good size drag washers on the 4000 so the stradic would be same but maybe more/better features. they both have the aerowrap slow oscillation set up so the braid lays down nicely. 5.7:1 retreive for stradic is up there for spinning up the tailor.
mate i won a TICA 4500GRH Hi-Speed in a raffle like 2 years ago and to be honest so far its done a bloody good job(for a lot cheaper, or the value of it anyway), out of form with what is usually said about this brand(i do take very good care of my gear though), the high speed retrieve is one thing you might wanna look for but seriously if your thinking of buying a stradic 4000 i imagine it would be a lovely reel and an absolute pleasure to use, let us know how you go...and good luck with the jew too
Another one to look at is the Penn applause series.
Very solid reels that run smooooth.
They are about to go on special at most major Penn dealers in the next week.
Yeah Reggy!!
They are a good price now for a very nice reel!!
But penn jarvis walker are having a "spot x" sale over the next few weeks and they are on special!!
Alex I can't comment on the Stradic never owned or used one but I do have a 6000 Applause and I rekon it's a great reel smooth excellent bail and roller and good progressive strong drag. Now that tonys mentioned the special I'm off to "spot x" to hunt up another one.
Basically
The Stradic is an awsome reel, and if you don't mind paying the price they are great. (and have a ten year warranty)
The applause is also an awsome reel, at a fantastic price!
No ten year warranty, but have the back up parts and service of Penn, always reliable.
Have a look at both
Also a very nice reel ,8 ball bearings, worm drive oscilation system, very strong smooth drag, another one to look at seriously.
Penn has come up with some quality gear at very realistic prices of late.
