Drags Tight On Or Off ?

Is it good to leave your over head reel drag on done up tight when reels are not in use?
Which is the preferred method to extend the life of the drag washers.
Back off Or up tight ?
    Thanks

Yep I'm with Mackmauler and Heath. Back them off Bernie. I have overheads and loosen them after every trip so there is no pressure/wear on any of the drag parts/washers etc. Cheers mate and hope this finds you well.

Let me say that I agree Mine are backed off,But every reel that comes into a tackle shop from China or Japan has them done up very tight.

Funny you should say that Banshee. I am looking for a new reel and was surprised to pick up a Shimano Stradic valued at around $240 and the drag was wound on very hard.

After washing my reels I always wind the drag right off too.

off. if left tight the washers will get squashed out of shape & give you a very lumpy drag..

Loosen right off when washing in salt water and store at full tight so the bugs don't climb in .............somebody's gotta be different .

I agree with the Dr, and Stunnedmullet.
Drag on when washing off for drying and storing, and yes, to ratchet on in the case of overheads.

Thank you all for your input. looks like drag loose is the go when stored.
However dose it mater when washing that water gets in between the washers?
Some of you say tight when hosing. [smiley=helpa.gif]
Heath good tip regarding the ratchet on makes sense.
    Thanks eveyone

Should not use a hose to clean the reels..if you have too... use very very low water pressure, best way is to use a spray bottle with either pump up... or finger pump, and tune to a fine spray.

    Cheers
