    Making my own Sinkers

Just a quick question in regards to making sinkers......what do you guys find the best source for lead? I used to have a 20L drum of old wheel weights but has been taxed so now am back to square one. I was thinking of usning the lead from old car batteries but I have been told it is now good Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks Trent

Go to a metal recycle place or a scrap metal yard.

I have used car batteries. You just have to be careful of the acid and dispose of it correctly.
I don't see why the lead iwould be any different.

I've just made up some downrigger bombs &, amongst other scrap lead, used the plates out of an old battery. Not worth it as too much foreign matter. The terminals melted down fine.

Fair comment Dendrobe. I do have to fish a fair bit of crap out of the pot to get a good poor.

20l drum of wheel weights would have a fair bit of back crunching in it to pinch it, who would want to knock it off?
Wheel weights is the best we've found, for sinkers and ammo projectiles.

We used to get some from the scrap metal dealers and I think it was lead sheeting from the inside of old house roofs. Apparently they used to weigh them down or something with it. It was fairly thin and could just be cut with a pair of old scissors.

It used to be pretty good

Batteries and tyre weights are a waste of time. They smell when you melt them down and little reward for all the effort that you have to go through to get a melt without crap in it. As stated" buy scrap from the metal merchant" most of it is clean and for the money you are saveing by doing your sinkers yourself it's a bonus.
