What line and strength?
Hi all
Just bought myself a second hand Tld15 and was wondering what type of line I should spool it with and what strength?
I plan to use it mainly in the bay chasing mackeral in the summer and using it outside if I venture out there once and a while.
All comments welcome, I was thinking of going braid.

Re: What line and strength?
i'd try some 30lb braid, it's thin so you could fit plenty on the reel to fish deep outside. if you think thats too heavy or light for macks or outwide then you could just change. braid is a good choice though.

Hey there Snappy- if you go the braid option I dont think you have to go to heavy side sonsidering your use-20/ 30 lb- also consider top shotting- ie using mono underneath so you dont have to buy heaps of braid to fill a spool and considering that the first 1/3 is what sees most of the action and you can reverse the braid a couple of seasons on. You may also consider with braid your drag settings and keep them as you are using mono- no need to max things out.I am not sure that braid is the best choice if this is going to be a primarily mack rig , good name /quality mono may be the go-bay macks- 6/8/10 kg -I think anything over 10 kg is over kill for your stated use. Maybe the guys who heavily target the macks would give us idea of their gear.

Re: What line and strength?
10 kg will do in the bay ....and outside ...unless your planning on using it for thumpers like AJ's , Cobes etc ...then you will get done in .
I am about to upsize my TLD 20's from 10kg to 15 kg mono ....but that is solely because i have lost a few BRUTE fish ...mind you , i am targetting them specifically .
To go over 15 kg would be an overkill as you drag will start struggling
as for braid ....again , no need unless your going to be doing some serious deep water fishing . good quality mono will do the job at a third of the cost
I only use braid for Soft Plastic fishing so i can see a strike ( less flex in the line ) and in deep water so i can get more line on the spool .
I would never use more then 10kg in the bay

Re: What line and strength?
yeah for macks 10kg is plenty. I caught a 23kg spaniard on a 7000 with 20lb platinum and although it took a lot of line, I was never really in trouble. I prefer to fish with mono for macks too. Especially when trolling. A bit of stretch in the line is good for sudden hits and direction changes. For bottom bashing though I only use braid - much better than mono for that.
cheers,

Thanks fellas
Keep those hints coming, Im sure its not just me getting benefit from them.
Might have to buy another reel.
One for the mono to chase the macks and the other for the braid to go bottom bashing lol, sure the wife will love that idea.

Just buy more rods and reels to suit each application. You can never have too many in my books.
Does the cook only cook with one saucepan or are there different pots for different cooking tasks.

Hey Angla, can you come over and talk to my wife for me.
She already thinks I got too many rods and reals now.
I also like the saucepan idea.
