    SP's at night???

Ok this might seem like a stupid question, but i've only really just started getting into sp's and this is something that's been niggling at the back of my mind, Does anyone here use sp's at night? i now lures do rely on visual stimuli, but fish can obviously still see at night, and alot of the plastics these days come with built in scent, or i just add scent, i'm asking because most of my forays are nocternal excersions around currumbin/talley due to daughter and work commitments and whille i have tried sp's at night with not much luck, but that could just be my technique.. so do i persearvere or stick with the lives.

What if the soft plastic is a glowing version like the green glow beads and or why do the pros use mini light sticks on their lines?
That would be my answer - find a SP that glows after you treat it with light.

At the risk odf sounding silly, it depends whetehr you want to just catch fish, or whether you want to engage in the fine art of sport fishing.

As far as catching fish goes, its hard to beat livies, not only do they look smell and act real, they put out a "come and eat me distress signal" to predators.

HB's rely on wobbling and ball bearings to create the vibes as well as sight.

But, if you are hooked on the "dark arts" of SP fishing as I have been for a couple of years, the challenge to match the catches of the livie brigade is what its all about. Don't get me wrong, I use SP, livies, HB's, slugs et al

You can catch most species on SP at night, but it requires that extra thought. Dark colour work better at night, and IMO scent can also be useful at night. here have been several threads on here about guys catching jewies and jacks at night on SP, while many other species can and do hunt not just on sight alone.

Some species are more sight motivated than others, Tailor comes to mind, where a flash turns them on.

Anyhow, for night try larger and darker and concentrate on your retrieve technique to get as much vibrating action in the tails, with suitable short pauses.

thanks, yeah i know you can;t beat livey to catch fish, but i like the convienace and fun of sp's trying the different types etc, and the ease of transport. i do have these glowing mullet type sp's and they're the only one's i've had sucess on and that was a squid but i'll try my darker ones out onight, thanks

    Re: SP's at night???

Fishingnottaken we use the Sp's at night in the week leading up to the full moon.
Have only used them in water between 2 to 5 metres and a spray with ultrabite definately helps .
Tried a few times on the new moon with some luck but some moonlight increases your chances.
Zoom 4" baby bass jr in baby bass colour was giving the best results.......lots of glitter in these sp's shines against the moonlight.
Just take a variety of colours with you and see what works best on the night.
