Alvey 700 Surfmaster schematics ? And rod guide qu

I have a very old alvey 700 surfmaster that has stopped working, so i opened it up and it seems the rachet spring thing has come loose and was just floating around inside the reel, can anyone point me to some schematics for this reel so i can put it back together properly ?

Also i have an old custom 12 foot snyder glass that is designed for this reel, but some of the guides have fallen off due to age (prob 20 years old) am i best just to take to the tackle shop to get them put back on ? and what sort of price should they be asking ? Just 2 guides

I am going to use this outfit for rock fishing, you think its ok ?

You can get the schematics off this site. Click on Alvey, then click on Maintenance. As well as an exploded view, they show how the springs should sit.

For example this one covers 651 and 700 series but most have the same setup for the ratchet and drag springs... http://www.ausfish.com.au/alvey/pdf/651C5.pdf

    Hope that helps.

this is how they should look from memory & i can do 'em in the dark ....
    excuse please my poor photoshopping...

the spring is only loose because you lost the pivot axle pin & more than likely the switch button on the outside of the back of the reel that connects to the screw on the triangle thingemjiggo

    here goes...

the little screw that holds the stepped triangle piece onto the Y shaped piece goes thru the rounded rectangular hole in the reel back. There should be a little pin that forms the pivot near the neck of the Y-piece. The liitle tag end of the wire pushes against the small arm of the Y-piece, wraps around the grooved circular piece on the other arm of the Y-piece & then fits into & pushes against a groove on the back of the stepped triangluar piece.

personally - make the part into some lovely jewellery for the wife. The ratchet on an Alvey is a waste - i don't know a decent surf angler who uses it - take it off, throw it out. You won't miss it unless you are one of those people who like to make noise on a quiet beach. In which case keep an eye over ya shoulder

the other mechanism is the important bit - it makes the star drag work independent of the handles
