Braid
Gidday all, I was fortunate enough to receive a Shimano TLD 25 from my loving wife and kids on fathers day, great reel. I'm now looking for the right braid to suit the reel. I fish out wide from Gladstone in Queensland and will be targeting the elusive large red emporer using my new reel. What would be the best suited braid for this application.
Thanks for any feedback.....Gadget

Re: Braid
Gadget, I just got one of these reels yesterday, and I picked up a spool of FINS at the same time. It's really thin, and very soft... I havent used it yet, but damn it looks like it should be the goods!
Also, many people on this site have said it's good, so that helped me in my decision making... I'd never bought heavy braid, so it certainly helped to know a brand...
I'm not sure what strength you would need though... Someone more knowledgable will know that one...

Re: Braid
I just got myself a FINS and they come in both lighter and heavier configurations if you are into lighter stuff less than 15 lb Finn makes them in 4 and 10 lb. However if you are into heavier line 15lb and above get TufLine they are a bit cheaper than Fins and they come in 15lb and above. I found them both reliable as I mostly fish around rocks. You can buy TufLine through ebay for half the cost of the retail in a tackle shop.
Daiwa has brought out a good line called Daiwa TD Sensor comes only in 150 m length. They are expensive and they look good and I was told that they are excellent braid.

Re: Braid
I have used Fins, Platil Millenium, Bionic and Fireline in the 20 to 50lb range and have never had any problems. Fireline is alot stiffer than the Fins, so it is up to personal preference what you choose.
Good Luck with the reds!

Re: Braid
If you are targetting reds of a decent size, you will want 50lb line so you can put some hurt on them ..... also helps if there are sharks about and you need to get them up quick.

Re: Braid
I use 50lb braid on a TLD25 for reef fishing. Works really well - I have the pre-set screwed in all the way and it gets around 8kg of drag on strike and only a bit more on full.
Remember, line heavier than about 50lb on a TLD will be wasted as you wont be able to get a suitably heavy drag out of it without re-working the drag.
cheers,

Re: Braid
Gadget if you are serious about buying a good braid get some Diawa sensor 40lb........300 metres and coloured in 10 metre incriments.
If the fish are holding 50 metres down its just to easy to get the same depth each time.
Its not cheap but you get what you pay for.
Cheers Brent
