Rockfishing outfit?

Looking for a cheapish castable outfit for rock fishing, for catching from small bream to dart upto 6foot Yellowtail kingfish etc.

Will be fishing in between hell's gates and fairy pools in noosa where they have caught cobia, kingies, tuna, mackerel and even sailfish. Have been using 5kg estuary outfits and getting smoked by big fish. Keen to get one of them in

Don't want to spend alot, maybe $250-$300

My outfit's a European beach rod (overhead) Abu Garcia chucks from 2 to 8oz a couple of hundred metres. It's 16yr old now. I got A********sports to copy it for me (Wilsons) in a nine wrap. I marry them to Ambassadeur 7000's. I suppose that there may be some rods similar in SA if you google 'em.

Tis good fishing from there and yes, I've even caught shovellies in the Kichen :-)

PS, If anyoone is interested in these kind of rigs, you can borrow one of my rods as a template (reel housing, eye positioning etc)

Meant to say, the copied rod and the reel came in at under 300 bucks. I was surprised that the rod onl;y cost 130 bucks seeing as it was made by wilsons and A*****sports would've taken their cut. The other way to go would be with a TSS4 on a bog standard heavy duty beach rod, (they're ten a penny nowadays) if you don't like overheads.

I digged out the old alvey surfmaster 700 and fxed it up and went to A********* sports and bout a 12" (4m) Jarvis Walker ###### Surf rod rated at 8-10kg for $29.99 =)

Hopefully this will pull me in some of those nasty kingies and jews that have been hassling us

i saw them last time i was in there, and wondered what they'd be like, you'll have to give me the report, i just thought looking at them the bottom guide is too small for the alvey and i don't like long butt's on my rods.. then again it's all down to personal preferance.

About 12 months ago I bought one of the rods you mentioned, carefully cut the butt with a fine hacksaw and recapped with the original rubber cap.
Except for being 250mm shorter it has not interferred with the performance compared with the same rod with the short Alvey length butt.
To get a second rod I had to do this as they had no stock of the short butt left.
Used side by side they perform the same for distance and under load.
A lot easier on the pocket too mate,using 600 alvey and also 650

Yeh im hitting up the rocks tomorrow, bloody 5.2km walk each way lol (noosa national park) i'll post some pictures of the fish i catch if any =)
