anyone heard of a problem with these and also 7000 model .
drag wont tighten on spool (top) even with drag tight as , line will still spool
off , i thought it was just my reel but fishing with some other guy's last weekend
his 7000 had identical problem and he told me was second time it had done it.
i,m not sure if its a DIY or tackle shop repair, i dont want to spend $35
plus parts for it to happen again.

Not trying to be a smart alex but is the reel spooled with braid? If it is then check that the whole spool of line is not turning on the spool. It is very common fault that the braid can't get a grip on the spool and the complete line slips.
One reason why you should always use a metre or two of mono as backing onto the spool.
Kind regards... David

good point david but i always back my braid with mono . (learnt that lesson the hard way) it's as if theres a spring or something missing that drag nut will go all the way down thread ? ? but on comparison with a new one nothing seems out of place .
cheers

sounds to me like the thing is stuck in the strike drag... and not switching over to the main drag.. I have seen that happen before in a okuma eclipse reel... may be the same problem here
