Re: Downrigging for reefies
Scotty goin alright but have been too busy or the weather hasn't been agreeable to do much fishing of late.
Sounds pretty similar to what I have been running for macs, but haven't really tried chasing reefies yet. That is on the to do list. Though it might be challenging to run my sports troll 5 ft off the bottom.
Noticed the snapper you got last week and definately is an animal. If your stuck for a crew in the future you should give us a call. I only live up the road and usually have a bit of time off in lieu up from overtime so can often take a day at short notice.

Re: Downrigging for reefies
Craig,
got my mate Monroe to bring in the proper 13lb Pancake weight or whatever it is in his luggage. He pays a fair bit in excess luggage but when you see what he brings back you can understand why. He is over there 2-3 times a year. I just get Cabelas, Meltons or Basspro to send stuff to his work address. I think it was Basspro who wanted a faxed confirmation that it was ok to do as the biller address was different to the delivery address. Also got slugged extra over there for transporting the weight of it. I am guessing it came in at around $50 AUD. Bit hard to say as I gave him something like $50 AUD for excess luggage for all the other stuff he bought in for me as well. Hasn't been used in anger yet as we are getting away with the normal 10lbers for what we do. Got all excited about what Zak Pilatic and those guys do with their downriggers out in 100m of water or whatever they do and that is the reason I bought it. Russ has the Canon Digitroll IV with the transducer and 400' of cable.

Re: Downrigging for reefies
hey cragie
i got my bomb threw west marine in the states.its a 10lb tru trac bomb and im pretty shore its in their on line catologue.just check before you get one i think 10lb is the lightest pancake bomb they make and im pretty sure the maximum weight rating for the boom on the easy troll and sports troll is either 6 or 8lb,not that i would let that stop me .
i got mine sent over via DHL couriers about 2 years ago and it cost approx $80 all up.digi troll IV from the same joint cost around $2500 back then.
brooksy
ill give you a yell for sure.

Scott
excuse my ignorance but how does the wire go at say 100m? Is there more drag than say on really heavy braid and would the risk of tangles outweigh the benefits?

Re: Downrigging for reefies
I bought a Scotty downrigger from Cabelas in the USA last year. The downrigger cost $194 in Australian dollars delivered to my home with a free 10lb weight thrown in.
The same downrigger at tackle shops here was priced at $499 without a free weight.
The product was extremely well packed and I was delighted with the service.

Re: Downrigging for reefies
Ditto Charleville.I got the same one as you about six months ago for $174 delivered.
Very impressed with the service & packaging.
Well worth the ten week wait for it.
