    New Zealand tackle and products..

Going to New Zealand for a break, Is there anything worth bringing back thats a whole lot cheaper there than Aus.... or something they make better over there.
I know it a dumb question, but I have no one else to ask. Answers appreciated

A friend of mine just came back from New Zealand. He reckons most of the tackle is more expensive over there. However, they do have stuff we don't see over here - different lures and such. Supposed to also have some very good live fibre rods.

Black magic gear which sells at a premium price here is apprently quite cheap. Not totally sure. But the prices from catalogues show that in nz tackle stores can get quite a considerable discount compared to australian shops.

New Zealand is a lot more expensive than here fr tackle,

however if you are into flyfishng you may want to stock up on some of the gear they have as it probably beats anything you will see in our shops

have a good trip mate, catch plenty of trout ey

Not sure about stuff to bring back but you could take a few of them back to that side of the ditch for us.

    Hey Mag,

Just checked with my mate... He's not sure about having a license to fish but had never heard anyone mention it. Best to check at the tackle shop when you get there.

One thing that did catch his eye was a rig called a "Snapper Trapper" made by Black Majic. Consists of two hooks set about a foot apart on a trace but the hooks have feathers on them like a fly hook. It says you can add bait as well otherwise you use it as is. Sounds interesting.

He also mentioned that the big snapper over there don't have bumps on their heads like they do here. Weird eh?

    Have a good trip.

Black Magic make a great range of sabikis. Like the one Cruiser refered to but it's actually called a Snapper Snatcher. I have been using them for years but they are a bit expensive and often hard to get hold of. Seem to work pretty good though.
Check out the fishing kites and kontikis too. Don't think they would be legal here the way they are sold over there.
    Have a good trip

You will need a licence if you are trout fishing, the tackle stores sell these.
Also the snapper in NZ are the same as here, plenty of big knobbies there too.
No licence is req'd for salt water/off shore fishing, good luck mate, about the only thing I miss from the place was the much better fishing opportunities over there, oh yeah the family too.

    Cheers Ryan..

    PS where are you going.
