    Patonester Question...

I started rigging up a couple of rigs last night, but wanted to find out how everyone else does it... I'm just curious as to the measurements you use for the following areas:-

All looks pretty good to me dan, dunno about the 20 cm long dropper thou , i try to keep them reasonably short so they dont tangle around main line. 10cm sounds more like it.

Where are you using that rig?

    Jas,

Mainly used around Mud Island for bream... *LOL*

Am heading out wide early Sunday morning, and in the past, I've always fished deep water with these rigs... Am going to run one rod with this, and one rod with a swap between jig & livie. May also swap the patonester over with a twin hook setup (top hook snelled) depending on what's around, and what bait I'm using.

    Re: Patonester Question...

    G'day.
I mainly fish depths about 60 - 70m with this rig.
(A - can't measure as I never put a swivel above the rig, therefore B is not reuqired)
So 1m from sinker to 1st dropper, and 1m from 1st to 2nd dropper.
Dropper length is about 25 - 30cm in length.
The only swivel in the rig is on whatever hook setup I attach to the dropper, this allows any twist from the drop or retreive to come undone. The hook setup can be a single or double, whatever the species I am targeting. Also the swivell stops the line being abraided by the join in the eye of the hook, which surprisingly happens a fair bit.
Give it a try see how it goes for you. It has been working outside during the early hours very well, but then again there have been plenty of hungry fish to help.

    Re: Patonester Question...

All looks ok to me, my measurements are " Yep that looks about right " and they do vary a fair bit the droppers 50mm-150mm what I do is a twist dropper then I feed on a glow bead then the hook once all connected, I then put a small splitshot to hold the Glow Bead about 1" up from the hook then under the bottom hook I tie a swivel to the main line and then a light line attach the sinker
so if sinker fowls up on the reef it will break the light line so all I loose is the sinker I don't worry about swivel on the top just the bottom as the snapper sinker is what will cause it to twist also when you wind it up you are not damaging the end runner with a swivel.

Hope this make sence It dose to me But then i am OLD

Looks good Dan. The only important thing I would consider is keeping the droppers short enough and "C" long enough that the 2 droppers cant entangle each other, becasue they will want to.

    Re: Patonester Question...

I like that idea Westie! Had never thought about what caused the tangles... I had guessed it would be the hooks swinging in the current...?

Yeah Chanquetas - Kept them pretty short. I used to use these rigs as a kid, cause I grew up fishing really deep water down in Sydney. Haven't used them since I was about 13 though, so most info has slipped my mind... Just wanted to make sure I had remembered it all correctly!

Thanks for the info guys! Appreciate it! Now I just have to hope for some good weather to give em a run!
