i was just wonderin if anyone has got any of these reels and what there like ?im thinkin of gettin a 50 or 60 for chasin the longtails this season any feedback would a great help. i know most of the guys on here use tss4's and i have 1 of them in mind aswell
I have a efs 80 have had it for about 3yrs I think got it when they first came out. I like it its fast and smooth, have never had any problems and have only serviced it myself once. I think the tss4 would last longer but the efs is nicer to use. still if I was getting another I would get the daiwa emblem X
have an efs 40 i have used for longtails up weipa way (little bit undergunned in the line capabity department - full spool of 20lb braid just enough - but would not have been enough line if any big ones came along) and it was brilliant - nice smooth drag for the entire run everytime.
not as strongly constructed as, say the TSS4, but much smoother and very nice to use. as long as you don't intend to use the reel as a "winch" - itshould do the job no problem.
Mate was using an efs 60 at the time - little bit heavier - but had the benefit of a greater line capacity and was just as smooth
am going up to weipa in a couple of weeks and will be pulling it out to use on any longtails we find again.
I have two EFS 40's and have also used mine up at Weipa. Both reels were OK but eventually had problems and were returned to Okuma. They gave me two new ones as my problems were common to the earlier models. I think as a long turn solution they don't cut it. They have too much body flex and my my vote would be the Daiwa Emblem.
Having seen the efs series blow up a number of times on the pier in hervey bay I would say stay away from them. The machine cut stainless gears are just no match for the quality construction of shimano's tss4, and the GT's off the end of the pier for that matter!
had an efs 30 intended for use with 2 kg mono. Drag increments were not fine enough and the drag was kept gradually loosening and constantly needed re-adjustment. Got rid of it after about 6 months.

Jeez, those EPIX and the EPIXOR, look identical. The Epix is apparently OK for salt water as opposed to the Epixor.
I wonder if the Okuma mob just changed the name for the Aussie market ?
I am about to recieve a Coronado CD-90. This will be used for Spottie, Long Tail, lure/ slug casting in the coming season out of Hervey Bay. No doubt a GT will attack a slug at some stage. This will test the reel. I have been using ( and will continue to use, a Penn 8500 ), but the Coronado has the advantage of being a baitrunner. So, it'll get used for shallow water reef fishing.
Good to hear varying reports so far, but I believe there is support for a NO vote ? Need more responses !

I believe the problems I had with the reel were particularly related to the use of very light line. The drag increments and bit of loosening I experienced. You said you were just going to be using it for bait fishing so I didn't think it would bother you. How are you finding the reel anyway?

Its actually crap, I was never going to bother saying anything until I read that. It has never worked well even after I spent more money on it. I think its a very average reel, considering that its supposed to be a good one.

I have an 80, used exclusively for slug chucking with 10kg mono and like it a lot. If anything I would say it was the TSS4 that has the prob with the drag undoing itself..... However the handle tightener seems to work itself loose a bit. Ditto the flex issues - they do move about, and due to the insane retreive ratio the'll never winch anything. But the price is rite as is the warranty - 5yrs. Seems honest enough for what you pay - Tackle warehouse recommended this one over the tss4 so that's why i bought it.

I was just down at Tackle Warehouse Coorparoo and they recommended the TSS4 over the EFS80 for a couple of reasons:
1. Its lighter than the EFS80
2. The drag is better sealed
3. Apparently less ball bearings means longer lasting?
There were probably more but I dont remember. He didn't exactly convince me one way or another. He also threw in into the mix the Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500-A for various reasons.
I still like the EFS80 due to the line capacity being greater than the TSS4 and its smooth action. I'm still very confused and in the end I'll probably go for whatever is cheaper.

thanks for all the replys guys i think i gunna buy the okuma as i have a number of them and havent had any probs and i think that the price is right well on ebay anyway and i just would like to add theres 3 tss4s goin for $152 right now
