Finally finished the outriggers

Just in time for the beakie season I've finally cobbled together the outriggers for Bogey.

She came with 16ft Wilson collapsable poles with bases already mounted. It's just taken me 12 months to get my arse in gear and rig them.

I wanted to keep the poles collapsable so had to look for the correct size ring guides that fitted over the three sections. Took some doing. In the end it would have been much much cheaper to bind on some rod guides at the tip of each section but then again I can't bind

It was also the reason I didn't buy a ready made "kit". All up the bits and pieces probably cost me between $180 and $200 but as I said I could have shaved $90 off that if I had not gone with the ajustable ring guides. Most of the gear was sourced from Doug Burt's tackle on the Goldy with some from Whitworths and the local hardware.

Nah got it done yesterday and had to go to work today - I'll be home late because I've got to go to Redcliffe to pick up the Landy.

Everything fitted quite well actually. The pulley sits just right and you don't have to lean over to far and the rods won't get in the way. Lets hope we find out what happens on a strike tomorrow.

mate definately put some tag lines in if you plan on trolling lures. You don't really need the tag returns for now, just tie a length of line to the lower swivel on the main line.

Ditto on the taglines. There is another in between step we use which is slightly better than just clipping them onto the swivels and in some ways nearly better than proper tag line returns which are great to use. Will show you one day if we catch up. If livebaiting still use rubber bands and still with 10+ turns to avoid friction burns.

Is the idea of taglines?

1) to reduce the amount of slackline available after the rubber band releases from the clip on strike
2) get the lures close to the water

If it's the former - the poles actually run on a fair angle back (it's hard to tell from the photo). I'm also expecting them to be fairly flexible and bend even further back because of the fact that they're 3 piece. As a result the "corner" in the line from the side rod i don't think will be that big.
