Daiwa Capricorn Spinning Reel

Have just bought a Daiwa Capricorn 1500 for some SP work and now have a sneeky suspicion that these reels are for freshwater use only.

Can anyone that uses these reels let me know what they are like and if they have used them in saltwater?

Daiwa capricorn 2000 my favourite flathead SP reel for over 1 year. #It's on my most used outfit.

ALWAYS using mine in salt.

Simple clean with H2O after each trip, and light spray over whole lot with Inox every few trips and it still looks new. not a spot of corrosion. #Everything runs great and it's caught heaps, inc the odd jack.

Don, have a 2500 cap that I use for Snapper on Plastics and a 4000 Cap that I use for Macs and Tuna. Cant remember the last time I got them in the fresh. All good mate. Like any reel, give them a bath when you get home.

I concur with franco and hi-yo. My 1500 is 90% saltwater for tropical flats fishing and it get wet everytime. No problems as long as it gets washed down and lubricated like every reel should everytime.

my capricorn has been christened in the salt ,still working great the only thing i have done is replace the drag grease with a higher quality one,it improved the already good drag considerably.

Agree with above, I use 1500 & 2000 Capricorns for throwing SP's for bream and flatties, (and anything else that happens along). Mine are used at least once a week, just a wash and spray with Inox, loosen the drags and all is good.

On Daiwa`s website, the Capricorn is in the freshwater reels section.
I have a Caprice, which is also in the freshwater section, (didn`t know that when I bought it) and the only problem I have had is that the main shaft started peeling what looks like a chrome plating. I don`t think the Caprice has a stainless shaft (the Capricorn may have)
I sanded the shaft and covered it with a heavy grease.
I also bought a Penn Applause, it has an air bail and a stainless shaft, metal body, etc

Ive heard Inox mentioned a number of times for use on the reels after a day out. Is it then just a matter of spraying Inox on the reel after cleaning it down with Freshwater ? How much spray is recommended and are there parts of the reel to avoid spraying the Inox on ??
I've used ' Lanotec' on a reel before and found that the reel becomes quite sticky to touch and the action of the reel suffered due to the residue left on the reel. Is Inox alot different than the 'Lanotec' ??

Thanks for everyones feedback. Not often you get to feel good about being wrong!! I will use my Capricorn with pleasure in the salt and keep up the maintenance on it as I do with all of my reels.

Not sure on an answer for Cam's question about Inox and Lanotec. Any one got any info?

cam the inox is great for the reels ,a light spray then wipe is all i do and the reels are as good as the day i bought them,the lanotec gets sticky in the sun which makes any dirt and dust stick to it making it hard to clean,the inox wears away gradually each trip keeping the reel free of all the contaminants. cheers AL

where you looking at the american website? If so it is classed in freshwater as a bass reel. 80-90% of american reels are made for bass fishing so naturally it is classed in freshwater. In australia it is classed as one of the hardbodyz range and is very much suited for salt water. Daiwas crbb bearings also have a plate on the side of them to sheild water and muck in addition to being corrosion resistant.
