    HOME MADE DOWNRIGGER

any one have any ideas or designs on making a down rigger. dont want to fork out the necessary cash on a new one so I figured a bit of improvisation and ingenuity would help, as well as ideas and opinions from the ausfish crew.

Depending on what kind of current you are going to be in you can simply pour some concrete in to an old paint tin, set an eye bolt in it and away you go

But with more current you might want to put some more effort in
You say fish, I say yes please.

Those that have made some of these themselves, how about chucking some photo's up, there's probably a number of us that would like to 'improvise' with these ideas.

    Hi Thunderbird,

That's a nice neat unit. From the photo, it looks like it simply slips into a rod holder. What size Alvey is it?

I have a plain 6.5 inch Alvey I no longer use (no star drag) so tightening the drag to stop the bomb sliping might be a problem.

    Hi luc
The reels a 650c alvey i borrowed off the old man and has the star drag.
yes it slips straight into any rod holder with a gimble. The thing i like is that it can be thrown up in the rocket launcher when you're finished to free up deck space.
