    Hi tony,
I have two okumas. The one i love the most is the md80 which is a medium sized eggbeater.Have used it for trolling and normal fishing activity including catching good tuna and mackeral. In my book it has definatly prooven itself and would never hesitate to by another one .Also if you shop around you can usually pick them up for half price when those sporting stores have there sales on.Buy one you will Love it.

    G'Day Tony

I have five Okuma reels, and have not had any trouble with any of them. However, all the reels I have are used primarily for light tasks, such as estuary fishing, so I cannot attest to their ability to stand up to high-speed pelagics.

I have a Fina that I intend to use for some beach fishing, so will let you know how it goes if you're interested.

I have 5 okumas and my father has another 2. On my smallest okuma and 6'6 bream stick, whilst flicking for for small chopper in the channel on south fraser I snagged a 10kg golden trevally. 45 minutes later I had it on the beach. That little okuma and I mean little went red hot to touch but never missed a beat. I love my okumas. They are an awesome bit of technology for the price. i bought a cheepy okuma reel, i think it was a beachcaster?? for about $60, that was 3 yrs ago, i use it for beach fishing, rock fishing and heavy jetty fishing. i have abused the #$$% out of it and only stripped her down a couple of months ago and gave her a good re-grease. nice simple design inside and smooth drag. have a look at the 'some pics of cod' post under saltwater photos, that was the okuma reel that u can see. good solid piece of machinery that will take a beating and is easy maintanance.
