You should give a thought to kite fishing, in NZ is all the rage. Take a look at http://www.fishingkites.co.nz/ for some info. You can also set up the rig for competitions too, even international records etc.
Good luck by the way
I am aiming at fishing the Lion Red Snapper Classic to be held in NZ in february. For those who don't know it is purely a land based competition from the 90 mile beach up the tip of the north island.
I have never caught snapper in the surf so will probably need as much luck as possible. The question I want to ask is can you reconmend a rod and reel package that could handle the usually rough surf on the west coast of NZ. I have always used Alveys with a 10-12 foot schnieder glass rods, yet the alvey reels don't seem to be as popular as the egg beater style reels when I ran into a few of the competitors in NZ last year. Furthermore they were using 3 piece surf rods around the 15 foot range. I have a 2 piece scnieder glass rod and I feel I dont cast as far as i could if it was a 1 piece, so has me wondering what a 3 piece would mean.
Can anybody reconmend a good surf combo that will enable me to cast a fair distance, I also have to think about transporting this gear to NZ as well.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Craig
