Looks to me like a Saddlers leather punch. No idea what its in a tackle box for though.

Maybe it's for making leather drag washers?
I agree with baldyhead and hi-yo, it is for making fake scollops out of stingray and shovel nose shark flaps. About 20 years ago I actually made some for a few people.

I'm with Fishin_Dan. I use a punch like this to cut out teflon and fur-felt for drag washers, they work very well and cost jack!![]()
wad punch. What it's doing in a tackle box is anyone's guess. All prior suggestions are possible. I'll go one step further and say its for punching emergency floats out of your thongs while pig fishin???

She a leather hole punch. Pick em up at any decent uphostry/leather stores. Great for making drag washers out of.
Billyboy
Leather punch but yes, the guys are right, she'd be used for punching out "scallops" from ray flaps.
There's a European crustacean know as scampi/Dublin bay prawm which is absolutely fantastic eating but expensive and I used one of these punches to punch out the "glands" in the sockets at the rear of skate's eyes which taste remarkably like scampi. I have heard of them being used to fake scallops also.

That's right Mike. The supermarket "scampi" is just that. True scampi can nowadays only be found in reputable seafood bars such as those here

The Cottage is the best of the "fish and chip" shops and Robert's Oyster bar has stood for 130 yrs. It was reknown for being one of the few places in the UK that sold scampi "in the shell". That way you knew what you were getting was genuine.
Just remebered that those false crumbed scampi from the rays were also sold uncrumbed as "skate nobs". Makes you think dunnit?![]()

Looks like a fish donger
Possibly a tool for removal of spines in large deadbaits ie frigates and macks.
Other than that ,no clue

After 26 replies and no one knows what it is ,

Mick
