    Penn 220 GTO...thought?

Does anybody use a Penn 220 GTO overhead reel and if so, predominantly for what? Would it strictly be suited for offshore work only? If not, would it also be suitabe for Jack fishing if say mated to a Wilson Sensor Tip 6'6" rod?

I've seen a near mint condition reel for sale in a local hock shop for $125.00AUD (reel only), down from $145.00. Not sure if this is a good deal as I can't seem to find the price of new one anywhere!

    Any help appreciated

That price is probably a tad more to your door than if you bought it new from the US. So I guess it is getting sort of close to a fair price for one in perfect condition here, around $80 but under $100 would be closer imo.

Most of my reels are Penn but their classification system just confuses me, If the GTO has star drag I am sure they now have GTIs with lever, I think the Gti and gto are overall the same real. You might want to consider a reel without a level wind if you can get along without one.

Bought 3 of these for my young boys for bottom bashing because this seemed a cheap way to introduce them to using an overhead & the level wind made things easier for them. Most of the larger tackle outlets are selling them for $99 with a Penn rod & line included. Seem OK but have already had to send one away for warranty repair. Was only used twice & the ratchet stopped working. They all have a little sideways slop in the spool & the drags at this stage are working OK.

    FNQCairns,

Better start chewing on that hat. If you have any trouble eating it, I'll send you up some sauce & maybe some castor oil for your digestive system. Watch out if you start coughing up fur balls, they can be nasty.[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

    JACKpot, thanks for the specifics.

Jackpot which one? I will ring and find out when it is on again (worth the freight), thats less that 1/2 price even with a low quality rod.

Yeah wtfh I just finished ringing A sports store and went for a wander down the back to find that hat! Yep I was wrong 99 dollars with a really crappy seaboy rod. I will check it out tomorrow.

Bugger the castor oil with the size of my mouth sometimes I probably will not even need to chew

    Cheers fnq

Chin up FNQ. The good news is that eating it is probably the easy part. It's when it comes out the other end that will probably be the harder part of the equation. Maybe if you cut the hat into bite size pieces before eating it???

Scott - You could try using "Chong's Short Recipe" to help with the hat...
