    Saltiga or Torsa

After a bit of advice please. What is your opinion of the Shimano Torsa 30 & the Daiwa Saltiga Z40. It will be used for offshore jigging mainly. I'm off to Perth in a couple of weeks for a holiday & will use the opportunity to have a look in at Campbells. I've spoken to two tackle shops in my general area for two different opinions. Thank you.

deffinantly the z40.. havent used one.. but know what they can handle.. and they are built for it.. more then the shimano.. and the replacement turn around is alot better then shimano... if anything went wrong.. which is doubtful

Mate if you could compare the weights of the reels it might help. It seems the torsa is quite a heavy reel for its size so it might be a factor to consider when doing a lot of jigging. I think the shimano Ocea Jigger 4000 is better than both even though i have two Saltiga Z40's. My mate has the big ocea jigger and he only needs one turn of the handle between jigs whereas I need 2 because of the larger diameter spool of the jigger and he hasnt busted it yet, whereas he has been through all the other shimanos and busted them all. We do heaps of jigging with big jigs so maybe think about one of those as an option as well.

I see the Torsa as an unknown,I have played with them at the tackle show display and wasn't over the moon so to speak, that's not saying that they aren't an excelent product, they just didn't feel as good as my Ishidai in the hand, also if your going to want comparable drag to what the Daiwa is generating your going to have to buy the appropriate cam,off hand I think there are six or so available as optional extras that range in price up to about $85 for the one you'll probably need over there. The trouble I find with lever drags and heavey settings is that they feel like they are binding up,this was also the case with the Torsa, but in it's defence it didn't have the heavey cam fitted,I think from memory the standard cam runs 5 or 6 kilo's of drag.I own a swag of top shelf Shimano's and they are great reels,I have jigged with a TN 30 and unfortunately the antireverse came up wanting, the only Daiwa I own is the reel that to date has not failed at jigging So my advice would be the Z 40,the Z 40 Ishidai's have had a price drop in the last few weeks so shop around for someone passing on the saving if the budget will stretch to these.
