some on this site are better qualified than me to answer this qu, but ill shed at least some light on it for u.
there are three main grades that i am aware of, im6, 7 and 8.
im 8 has the most 'guts' in regards to brute pulling power, however, it is the most brittle, so one must look after it well, not high stick it or ram it against rear car windows. these rods tend to be the most expensive in my experiance.
im6 is the opposite end of the spectrum, they are a lot more 'doughy' in action, having less 'guts' in the rod, but consequently are much harder to break. these tend to be cheaper. im7 is in the middle as far as i know, and i havnt seen many of them around.
