I use machine oil adding a little bit of marine wheel bearing grease, and shake the hell out of it till the grease desolves and it is slightly thicker then the machine oil, i lubricate everything with it, even the bearings and gears, no grease whatsoever, it doesn't coast much either, using it for years without any problems, saying this check your manufacturers waranty close.
    cheers vince.

Full strip down, thorough clean, re-lube and re-assemble is the only way to go, either by yourself if you're familiar enough,or at the shop. Those lanyards are the bloody go, shame when its a lesson learnt the hard way, as it was for me!
    Cheers mate!

The best treatment is Salt-X have been using on my reels for a couple of years. A light spray with the 70-1 mixture when we come back from fishing. They recommend a 35-1 mixture to soak you reel in. It takes all the salt out and does not damage the washers or metal. Can't use on magnesium though.
They are on the web and can highly recommend. Live at the coast and fish a couple of times a week and utilise all around the holiday house. We are right on the beach and river.

    Good luck

I did a holiday ealier this year down the coast for a trip chasing marlin. During one fight in a hurry my 15kg outfit was placed on the floor. At the end of the fight we swam the marlin before releasing it as all good anglers do. Problem is my mates boat has a drainage problem were water will come into the boat if everyone is on one side ( like when you swim a marlin ). Unfortunately my tiagra 30 got submerged. Being on holidays we didn't have the correct tools to strip it.
I took it to the local tackle store which belongs to a large chain of well know stores to have it stripped and cleaned. Picked it up the next day , put the lever up to strike and you couldnt turn the handle. Took it back but they couldnt fix it. In the end they had to send it to shimano to get it fixed for me. Pitty for me it happened at the beginning of the holiday.

PointyFish - sounds like they stuffed it for you, just being submerged shouldn't jam up your reel like that. Especially not after being stripped, cleaned etc. Hope they paid for it to get fixed? Or did it get covered under warranty?
You say fish, I say yes please.
