    Which Rod Is Best?

    Hi
Just wondering what people think of the the Berkley Drop Shot Rods and the Steve Starling Series of Rods?

I am after a rod which can handle snapper, cod and species of those sizes that you would encounter in places such as Wellington Point.

I am also after another flick stick to buy for my better half, to match a daiwa samurai reel 2500. I am considering the berkley drop shots, or steve starling series or should i just buy another rod from the raider series.

If anyone has any other brand they would suggest around those prices could they please let me know.

I'd be going with the berkley drop shot rods as the have fuji alconite guides where as the starlo series has non fuji shimano base guides. The 7' 4kg snapper in the drop shot series would suit your reel perfectly. I find 2500 sized daiwa's to large for any of the raider series, and at $90 you'll save yourself a bit of money on a rod comparable in componet quality to the raider series.

Not necessarily, alot of people use as little as 4lb line to catch 50-60cm snappery squire on plastics. 10lb fireline should be more than enough to land most fish in the bay and alot of these rods can take it with ease. There is a new raider rod coming out that is 7'6" 5-7kg 2 peice designed specifically for large snapper on rubbers. Go into your local tackle shop and get the shop assistant to load the rod up for you. You'll be supprised exactly how much low end grunt alot of these rods have. I have trouble convincing alot of customers that they can actually pull harder than they are with some of these rods, they tend to follow you down when you load the rod up properly. If you still can't be convinced that this outfit is heavy enough have a look at some of the live fibres but they will require a 4000 sized daiwa and may become to stiff for casting light jig heads around 1/8th ounce.

Thanks for that Jeremy87. The 7,6 Raider seems to be the one im after so i will go check it out. Now I feel I gotta get a brand new reel to match it. This hobby never ends does it?

Tell me about it ....I have been placed on a good behaviour bond by my better half..not allowed to enter or go within 200 metres of a tackle shop!
