Thread: LED headlamp?

    LED headlamp?

Does anyone own a quality one of these? I would like the brightness to be adjustable and the unit to be waterproof at least to a couple of meters.
I own a couple of cheap 21 led headlamps for our fairly common summertime blackouts and stuff but they wouldn't stand up to ANY salt water.

    Re: LED headlamp?

I have a 3 led headlamp that I use for crawling around ceilings and every thing else, cost was $80 but its a heap better than the others I have had. Its all enclosed in a rubber case. Brand, no idea as its name is worn out. How does this help, probable doesnt but it does let ya know that there at least was some quallity ones out there
    cheers

    Re: LED headlamp?

I purchased one about 18 months ago, from Battery World, has 8 leds and you can turn 4 leds off when needed.

It is supposed to be for diving too 30 meters, has a headband made of rubber like on diving face masks.I have only used it in my saltwater swimming pool which is about 8 feet @ deep end, without any problems during the time I have had it.

Ohhh also I use it a lot for cooking on the BBQ at night.

    Cheers,

    Tony

Petzel makes the best head lamps by a long shot, not cheap but extremely good quality, check out your local distributor to see if they make one that suites your needs.

    petzl

I've got 2 of them, one a high powered halogen and the other a led. I've never had any troubles with either of them, and I don't treat them too kindly. They have big and small, I really like the 'tika', weighs next to nothing and has enough light for most small thinks.

Petzl is the go but if you get a halogen bulb get some rechargeable batteries or shares in union carbide

Thanks Chris for the helpfull advice if that's the only model they have I might keep looking around a bit more before committing.

Feeling a bit wary of it's 'flasher mode'

    Re: LED headlamp?

Thanks for the replies, I checked them out but decided on the Princeton Tec Eos headlamp.

The price is right compared to some others, it also seems to be a ripper of a lamp, no one has a bad word to say about it only praise - will see when it arrives.

For anyone interested or contemplating a led headlamp the best price on this one here in oz I could find was just under $100 but I can land one to my door for $54.00 Australian by airmail from the states.
Note: It should have been a bit less but Paypal scams you with a crooked exchange rate -sheesh!!

    Anyway,

Great review site for led headlamps- #

Cheapest place/seller I could find to buy and freight one -

    Re: LED headlamp?

I got an elcheapo but have taken to fraser over 10 times have been dunked whilst wearing it (scary at night in waders.. very scary) it is still going strong after 3 years although corrosion is setting in but I got it for special from the nameless mart for 7bucks. So for 7 bucks every 3 years+ I am happy. The moral of the story is don't discount the cheapies.

    Re: LED headlamp?

fnq, I'm sure you will be more than happy with the tec eos. A mate has had one for a while since someone knocked off his petzl. So far it has been faultless and a good deal at that price.

    Re: LED headlamp?

Just an update for those that are interested, the EOS arrived yesterday, tested it last night and I am just blown away. I can virtually spotlight a tree at 60m on the brightest setting!! Really had no idea LEDs could do what this little fella does. No sure if even the lowest setting will be too bright for the boat - probably not, but regardless never have I had a headlamp like this little unit bulb or otherwise and it gives out white light, not a yellow or blue tinge to it!

Yep in case you cannot tell I recommend these little units! and the place I got it from - a fast and painless transaction.

    Cheers

    fnq

    Re: LED headlamp?

Yeah I've also have just recieved my Petzl Tactikka Plus has 4 LED and too am blowin away by how small the physical size of the lamp is and feather light , and the amount of light it puts out. LEDs are deffinately the way to go
