Thread: Smoked at Cutain...again!

    Smoked at Cutain...again!

I have fished curtain reef in the bay alot over the last few years and I always seemed to get smoked by unstoppable fish this time of year. I run a TLD25 with 60lb pre test with a live yakka on the surface. The fish seem to run way too fast to be a shark. They seem way too big to be cobia and on this sort of gear I thought I would have been able to stop an angry AJ. Do any of you guys have any idea of what they coud be?
    Cheers
    Dave

Bloody big Yellow tail king....they seem to take one big long run..then i can work them back towards the the boat then a few big head shakes and then they go straight for the wreck and then the bust off...my line comes back frayed for about 10feet?

I have heard of big cod flapping about the reefs in the bay.. a possibility? As for sharks I had a shark spool my Mitchel loaded with 600 yards of 80lpd braid. It did this in all of 3 minutes max! So they can run!! I had 100lpd mono trace and was hoping the shark would bite through it.. unfortunately it didn't! By By $100+ worth of braid!

I'm betting big cobes!!! There are some monsters that are in residence at curtain and are almost unstoppable. The tld25 hasn't enough drag to stop them bricking you on the wrecks. I've been meaning to try with a livie attached to my jigging outfit for awhile now but to many other things to do. Not sure that that gear will be up to it!!! 80lb braid , 150 lb leader and 15kg plus of drag.

    Be fun though!
Alcohol doesn't agree with me, but i sure do enjoy the argument!!!

I am thinking big cod or some type of shark, depends on hard it ran or did it just keep pulling.[dont go there]
