Hi all,
I am a newbie just joined this fabulous website Congratulations to the webmaster, this truley is an excellent site.
I have a Seafarer 5.2m Viking Cuddycab built in 1982, with a 1996 Johnson 115 Oceanrunner. Navman 5500 GPS, Navman 4500 fishfinder and Navman 7200 VHF. Well that's my boat.
FYI, as of the 1 Feburary 2009 the analogue 121.5Mhz distress beacons will be no longer detected by satellite and will cease to opertate. The digital 406mhz distress beacons will be mandatory. Just in case if someone out there is unaware of this. If anyone wants to know the advantages of a 406Mhz just say so and I will post them.
I have not had the Viking out yet as the motor is getting a 12month major service first before I venture out into that incredible pulling power of the deep blue unknown....
I look forward to either meeting some of you amazing fisherman/women on the water or here.........
Welcome to this forum Freedom (Whitesnake),
I have just recently joined too. Fab group of interesting people. There's a couple of abrasive characters around but hey, it makes for an interesting chat.
I always look forward to logging on and read what's going on..
the biggest advantage of the 406Mhz is the abliity of haveing it registared to your self with details like
Ph number
Boat type make and coulor
personal details
and when ativated (with transmistion and reaction times spoussedly quicker) all the details will pop up onto the screen enabling then to first ring and detirmin if it is a faulse call or not and then pass the infomation onto resucers so they know the area to look at and also what they are looking for
