    preferred bait jig.

Just wondering what type of bait jig everyone uses, i seem to have a real issue with hooks straightening lines failing or even worse no bait jumping on the jig. i'm not sure if it;s just a faulty batch i've been getting lately or something more sinister like jarvis walker have changed the hooks they're using etc, because i never used to have this problem, so i'm searching for other options. anyone?

Ash, not sure what bait you're after, but I favor Wasabi jigs, about $2.20ea, size 12 for slimies and yakkas at sea, size 16 for herrings in the river.
I've found these to be the best over the past few years, when after slimies/yakkas I put a small sliver of squid on the hooks, makes all the difference. Of course, if a decent squire takes a fancy, it'll bust you off/straighten hooks, but I've also taken legal squire on them when after bait!
Also found that when hunting herring, much better results on a sunny day when the reflective flecking on the 'flies' works more effectively.
    Cheers.

I like the "fish skin" type jigs.
I have tried fancier typs but never had the same sucess rate.

Outside last friday it was 6 slimies a drop, till I ended up with a slimy ball, all knotted together

    cheers.....

what do you mean fish skin type?

    Re: preferred bait jig.

There are probably a few marketable types similar, but "Wilson" have a 'fish skin' jig, supposed to be made of real fish skin, or the finish closely resembles the shiny and reflective surfaces of many aussie fish.
They are common, cheap, and good.
The olden days offered a top style bait jig,,,,,,it was actually tiny / minute single tail mr twisters, pink or red from memory, and they have been the best I have seen ever. They seemed to have the right 'moves'!

These are the only ones we use. I have to get them from Perth, but for 20 packets for only $35(including overnight packaging)I can't go wrong. There are bigger sizes too and we have also caught Mangrove Jack and small mackerel as well as all the other bait fish around.
If you need a price on anything unusual and your tackle shop can't get it for you then this tackle shop in Perth is the great. Here in Cairns we can get most anything but trying to find these bait jigs up here was impossible.

Yep those orange packet ones are my favourite cheapies as well. Like the proper Sabiki ones too.

hi fishingnot taken , try testing your rig before you put em out , pull on all the knots ,( i had batches all last summer the traces kept pulling off the mainline , unless you tightned the knots up)
if hooks are straightening before your mono breaks something sounds dodgy, but you could try backing the drag off

    Hi Tony
Spot on about the tackle shop in Perth. How did you know that?
    You must be psychic?
They are the greatest. So reliable and honest.
They even email you and ask if you received the goods.
They will even call you if you request.
