I've currently got a strange noise in my abu garci 4600c3. I was forced to transport my reel with the spool removed the other day and since when the reel is clicked into free spool the reel is making a much louder noise and, I have lost a metre or two in casting distance. The noise only seems to be evident when casting(just freespooling on the spot I don't notice it) but I "think" it is comming from the lever wind cogs side of the reel. I have open it up and put a bit of grease on the cogs which reduced the noise a little but, still not the smooth zzzzzzzzz sound that it was before. Anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this as I can't figure this one out yet.
It could be that your line is out of syncronisation with the level wind. Never wind the line thru the level wind on an ABU. The levelwind stays in sync with the line at all times unlike most others. Pull some line off and check. If that's the problem run it out passed the cast length then remove the button on the levelwind and move it to line up with the line. The levelwind must be going in the same direction as the line. This is much easier than it sounds.
Lever wind is aligned. I'm gonna give my bearings a service tommorow. They are pb due for a service now anyway. The spool was out because I needed a new braking block so I just took the spool into the shop on my way to uni, won't be making that mistake again.
mate i had exactly the same problem with my 4600c4. i stripped the reel completely down and re-oiled and greased the lot. fixed the problem but i'm buggered if i know what caused it.
Well, I re lube the bearing but hasn't solved the problem. Think I might just order some new bearing from Jack Erskine. I figure the only places the noise could be comming from are the friction ring and blocks, the bearings or the lever wind and cogs as it is only heard while cast.
Did you get the correct blocks for the cast control and are they in the right way.
Also very occasionally the frame can move and cause everything to be ever so slightly out of line and this makes for a noisey and slighly tight reel. Best sugsetion is a complete strip and clean, relube and reasssemble.
I've completely disassembled my reel and cleaned and re-lubed it all and still got my problem. Braking blocks are right size. To check that it wasn't the breaking blocks I even removed the blocks for a few casts but the noise was still there.
