I have been making my own soft baits for a year or so now, which I fish predominantly for Pike/Perch and zander here in Switzerland. i am planniong a trip to visit some friends in Adelaide and perth and will of course bring my rod!
I have posted a few examples of what I make do you think they will be any good for Ausi fish, cod, bass barrra etc? if so what colors?
Marvellous effort on the soft plastics- I think they will work well, especially the last shad style - good luck and please let me know of the results - cheers , Raef
yeh the swim baits look to be the goods should be good for flathead and cod maybe a bit small for the barra though if you want to target barra make a 4-6 inch swim bait and then ur ready to kick the tyres and light the fires

Raef, Thank you for the compliments I figured the swimbait is a pretty universally accepted (by fish!) bait!
Fishin_Dan, thanks for that I did't think they would be suitable for sea fishing, know I know, yep slow is the way to go with soft plastics i always say if your fishing sp's and not cathing anything either therre are no fish or your reeling too fast!
Jim, thanks for the tip i should be able to make a largerw swim bait mold I really want to get stuck in to one of those aussi Barra one day, even if it might not be this trip by the sounds of what Rando says the Barra are only found in Queensland am I right?
Oddbudman, well making them is quite easy really, if you can put up with the smell of molten plastic for long enough to pour them!!
Where it gets difficult or expensive is getting the liquid plastic, i have found a good company (M-F Manufacturing http://www.fishingworld.com/M-F-Manufacturing/ ) in the US that will ship to europe (45US$ shipping!) so you have to order a large enough quantity of plastic (ie 3-5 gallons) to make it worth it, wit 5 gallons of plastic I could make easilly over 6000, 3-5 inch swimbaits, and probably have plenty left over, if I had the time to make that many!!
You need a couple of small sauce pans with pouring spouts, heat up a couple of ounces of plastic add your colour and glitter and pour into a mold (store bought or hoime made) all my molds are home made out of plaster of paris and heavily varnished, either copies of existing baits like my swmbait one or my fat worm for example was made with a extra large Mr twister bait stuck in to an extra large Rawl plug! You can buy pre made molds in silicon or alumnium, which produce a shiniier pait but that starts to get expensive! For me home made plaster moulds do the trick.
You can recycle broken or unused plastic baits by melting them down on a LOW temp and pouring them into your own moulds.
