How much is a gripper worth...?
Hello everyone. I just returned from PNG where I went fishing for Bass with a couple of mates. On our most productive day, I managed to drop a fish with grippers still attached overboard, into Croc infested waters, so there was no going after it - I still had a hand on its tail for a sec, and could have lunged way out at the grippers on the surface, but for once my brain worked in time to tell me to stay in the boat.
Apart from never living that one down, I want to re-imburse my mate for his grippers, as I have to fix him up for other travel costs as well. I've found the range a big boggling as there are some for $40 and some for $300. The ones i lost were about a foot long with a big black rubber sliding handle and a silver steel sliding piece. The grip's jaws were steel and about 3-5cm in diameter. Can anyone suggest what I should
I'll try and attach the photo - its a great fish, with grippers doing their job wonderfully, but what's worse is - in a pristine catch and release environment I think I gave the fish a bout a 2 day death warrant. According to the guides, a big PukPuk (Croc) or Shark would finish her off pretty soon, as the grippers wont have released at all.
Lesson for the class - when someone hands you grippers and draws your attention to the little lanyard bit that goes around your wrist...take their advice.

Put simply, if the ones you droped over were Bogas then nothing else will substitute although they look similar to the untrained eye they are infact far superior and you are up for some serious bucks,if they were not bogas your mate will probably be happy with a set of Berkleys.

The original "Boggas" are around $400.00 for the large ones. The quality is unmatched but you get cheap ones from around $30.00. I bought a set for $10.00 on ebay. Not a lot of quality but they work great and not a lot of money. If I drop them over the side I wont cry about it!!
See ya
