Rod Building Q's
Just chasing a bit of info regarding Butt guide placement on a blue water spinning rod.
I have an NV8 Samurai blank and will be using a TSS4 reel on it.
Have placed the the guides (8 in total) and at present the butt guide sits 1040mm from the tip and 720mm from the centre of the reel seat. This position allows line to leave the spool and enter the guide at an angle that doesn't seem to cause great resistance and thus hamper casting distance. It does however look as though the guide is too far toward the tip of the blank. May just be visual perception.
Am chasing a placement measurement for the butt guide (size 30) on a 7' rod using the above reel. If anyone has a similar setup or has built something of the like, any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Rod Building Q's
There's no one figure that can be applied, even on blanks from the same model and batch there will be slight variations in action. Best advice I can offer is to take the rod outside, get the sun over your shoulder and send out a few casts. You want to be able to see the line coming off the reel as a cone shape. Stripper guide is best positioned where the cone is smallest. If it's too close to the reel the line will choke on the stripper, too far away and the line will be flogging on the blank before it gets controlled by the stripper guide.

i always place the chocker guide at the place where the cone is the smallest and then work back to the stripper guide and place it back the front to stop any chocking of the line in the cast , regards Leigh

Hi mate
Ian millers recipe from a mod fishing mag a while ago. ok place to start.
Tape them on and cast at the local park. I would go a 40 or a fuji high 30 for casting distance and then line the middle of the tss4 spool to the centre of the stripper guide.
Recipe – Samurai Medium Spin
Blank: Samurai NV8
Butt cap: Fuji BCBRC 19
Rear grip: Duralon 12” X ½” uncut
Reel seat: Fuji DPSD-17
Fore grip: Duralon 8” X 3/8” uncut
Winding check: 11mm
Guides: Fuji BMNAG or MNSG 40, 25, 16, 10, 8, 8, 8.
Tip: Fuji MNST8/2.5
Spacings: (tip of blank to 1st guide ring, 1st guide ring to 2nd,
2nd to 3rd etc)
