Just got a new spool of Finns PRT Braid 50 lb a few weeks ago ... spooled up the reel just before the start of the Barra tour @ Awoonga.
And to keep it short ..... got busted off on a straight pull with aprox 4 KG drag.... Not happy > .... Re rigged 70 turn bimini attach to leader via a cats paw splice .... afew cast later .... hooked up to an other big barra in the sticks and tuned her staight away no timber on line.... bang lost another 50 lber on a straight pull of aprox 4 - 5 KG due to braid line braking again..... anyone had any probs with Finns ? This is my first batch of 50 lb Finns . Have been using Power Pro for a few years and have never had a line failure on big fish . Not sure wether to try another batch or just go back to Power Pro ?
Cheers Les

On the other braid it coud have been a problem either during manufacturing or later handling. These things happen and even with the best quality control systems sometimes bad stuff gets through.
Try taking it back to the shop for warranty claim, might work if it really breaks a lot below stated rating.
Yep... took it it back today and did a few tests.... broke between 5 and 8 kg may get a replacement spool from JM Gillies ? And if i do ? Will do a few tests before i fish with it

I too use both and have caught Awoonga barra on both Les, without any braid issues. Me thinks you got unlucky mate.
Once bitten twice shy though ..... I had the same experience with Berkley whiplash (ironically enough that was in Awoonga 2 years ago) but my Local tackle shop (Doug Burt's in Southport) gave me my money back and replaced it with new line (Finns PRT !!)
Just out of interest had you been useing Bushman repelant in any trips prior to the failure?I had some 40lbs braid once that turned as weak as cotton, when I checked it out,it was only the section that was being cast out and fed back onto the spool under the presure of my fingers that failed, I started to wash the repelant off my hands and had no more dramas with the braid, didn't help my seats though, they all but disintergrated where my legs touched them over time.
Strange , I had a NEW spool of Berkley Fireline do the same thing , only light 10lb , but i could snap it with my hands , took it back and showed store guys , used the Berkley knot and snapped it in front of them , they gave me a new spool of 14lb no problems and plenty of apologeis , the new spools fine.
i just got off the phone to my mate whos been fishing north queensland the last month and he uses finns braid, and swears by it.
Hes been getting onto barra/jacks/salmon/fingermark etc and hasnt had a problem.
Hes at cooktown at the moment, and said theres a dozen metre plus barra cruising the big jetty there, and he didnt stand a chance when he dropped a livie under ones nose next to the pylons
Cheers

Good morning all,
Is this a common problem?
I just spooled up mt saltiga with Fins PRT 30lb and when tying my double it broke under hand pressure, thinking that the new line must just a little brittle, (which it was, stiff and hard) i tried it again, and it did not break. I ventured down to the rocks this morning and first cast, i was on, then snap! Lost the lure and fish. I re rigged, tested it and again it broke under hand pressure. Needless to say i didn't keep fishing. what a bummer! Anyone had this problem before and if so, do i stay with a brand that i had some much respect for from the experience of my last spool? I had previously thought that this was the best braid i had ever used!
Mick
Yeah mate ... I won't be using it again.... got a replacement spool and did a few knot tests on #50 lb. Again it broke to easy at around 22 lb.....
I know it would of landed most fish ! But its not the point as it should be breaking at around 35 to 40 lb or more at the knot. Gone back to Power Pro as its a proven performer and its got a smaller diameter .
Cheers Les
