    Braid For Breaming

    Hey guys
Just like to know what braid you use for you breaming outfits.
I currently use 4lb FINS and am finding it a bit too soft and frays alot, maybe its just me..
Be good to see what you guys think.

I use 6lb fireline on both my setups in pink & smoke colour tho i do have a reel full of 4lb fireline when i go just for bream but i mainly use the 6lb just in case i get 'bycatch' of flathead..

4lb platypus super braid is not bad i have been using one spool of it for almost 2 years now and have caught some good fish on it

    Hey Nabs,

I have 4lb Pink & 6lb Green Fireline for my bream outfits (also for flatties & Jacks - just up the leaders). Both have great visability for detecting strikes through line movement. After a while I find the fireline gets a bit furry, when that happens I just respool the line on backwards and start using the other end. After that it's replaced.

    Cheers

    Re: Braid For Breaming

I've used a few different braids/fused GSP lines and have some differing results as follows (in order of purchase):-

    * Jarvis Walker Braid Yellow(suffix)6lb (from Kmart) - rating - Good Value. Has lasted well and Not too many Air knots. Landed some 3kg Longtail tuna on small plastics rig with no dramas. Been on reel for 2 years.

    * Fins 10lb Green - Rating - excellent, Soft and supple straight from the box. No casting dramas so far (1 year) used for longtail tuna, flathead, jacks and asstd ooglies. no bust offs due to braid failure so far.

    * Squidgey braid 6lb & 10lb - rating - 6lb excellent, 10lb poor(in the end). Both were soft straight out of the box. very fine diameter for breaking strain and only a few air knots when casting unweighted jigs in windy conditions. 6lb is still serving well on themisses plastics/lure & bait rig. highly recommended. 10lb Squidgey is now backing(whats left of it) for last 80m of Fins 10lb on my baitcaster. had issues with its fine diameter and soft supple nature seemed to tangle into birdsnest without much provacation and i think this may have damaged it on one occasion as on one trip i had 3 incidents of casting lure at target only to see lure, leader and 10m of line land in water unconnected to spool.??? 3 in a row. After close inspection last 30 mtr of line discarded due to nicks and frays at 300 - 900mm intervals and new line topped over it. not impressed. both almost 1 year old now.

    * Sqidgey braid 4lb - after having both good and bad experiences with this brand before i thought i should give it another go on a spin reel and have used it for my new plastics rig just last weekend. very fine and supple. i like it so far although have only tangled with some small whiting to date but hope to give it a workout this weekend on some flathead and friends.

hope this is useful. i should be working right now but i'm addicted to this site
    cheers, roo.

    Re: Braid For Breaming

I use 4lb Fireline in the green for breamin. It rocks, and I've caught some good sized flatties on it too.

I use 6lb Fireline in the green out in the bay for catties, shovellies, sharks, squire, bream, sweeties, etc. Never had any real problems with it.

I have just got some PE Braid (Bass Hard by Line Systems) which looks the goods. It's 6lb, but is thinner than the 4lb Fireline considerably! It's also safety orange, so looks tuff

    Re: Braid For Breaming

Do you guys tie the fireline directly to the hook? Or all of you use mono/flouro leaders? I'm just asking because I'm still new to fireline.

    Re: Braid For Breaming

I use Flourocarbon leaders. Berkley Vanish 6lb for the 4lb Fireline (Bream outfit) and Yamatoyo 12lb for the heavier 6lb Fireline (Bay & NQ gear)

Tie the braid to leader with "double uni knot" or "twisted leader knot"

    Re: Braid For Breaming

For leaders I use 4 or 6lb Berkely Vanish for bream (sometimes heavier in tight country) and 14lb for flatties

    Re: Braid For Breaming

for a main line u should use a fused line insted of braid... it wil be slightly thicker but is more durable... spiderwire fusion and fireline are best... as for leader use flurocarbon... berkley vanish is best and in 6lb and maybe 8 incase a some thing biger swims by liek a trevelly or flattie
