The whole world's mad save thee & me (but I'm not too sure about thee)
yeah gday Owen,
Mate its a technique used by land based game fisherman to anchor your bait to the bottom to stop the flow of the current pushing it back up on the bank. I do have a common sense way of doing it but its far from perfect would like to know how others do it if indeed they do it differently but i assume they must as it is a proven technique ???
I thought this is what sinkers were for![]()

yeah Rob i wish!!!,
mate i think we would run the earth's resources of lead dry to get enough to keep our bait where it needs to stay if only it was that simple.

gday all,
mantis wants to know about sandbagging cos he wants to anchor his bait to the ground. it's basically tying one to the business end of the tackle so that the bait isnt removed from the prime spot. just a big sinker really! kinda like what mantis will be when i take him out to the shipping channel soon - in his brand new concrete shoes!!! - gonna be so much fun mate, so much fun, cant wait!!!

well good thing that i find out these things cuzza least then u can pick up a few tips on how its done. look forward to my swim and new shoe's mine r getting old
if u wana use leads to keep it on the bottom itd cost yu $30 for a sinker haha... if u r deploying your baits with boats ect. or waiting for the tide to rise... if ur fishing for sharks.... and have around 30lb mono at least... use about 12-15lb mono to tie the sand bang onto the swivel or trace so that in the fight it easily snaps off
Fastmantis i dont think there is a easy answer to the question, it depends where you fish, how far out the bait is, how big the bait is, what size the target is, what size line you use, how much current is in the area?
I use home made copper tube/wire anchors and find they work well(differant sizes for casting or yaked baits)
Sand bags are realy a trial and error idea to suit YOUR needs. Leigh

well well i do nt think your swim will happen mate - just clug clug clug aaaall the way to the bottom! if you decide to pick up your act, i'll be happy to show you some of the finer points of sharking, as leigh has obviously done. but until then, i ask that you cease your petulant ways or i may contact the moderator who will put you in the sin bin to cool down for a while! this is a site for fishos who take their passion seriously - please go join another chat board if you wanna continue being nonsensical and petty. all the very very best mate!
